Karla Brown has served the Pleasanton City Council for eight years.

PLEASANTON, CA — Longtime city councilmember Karla Brown is running to serve as Pleasanton's mayor.
Brown has lived in Pleasanton for more than 20 years and served the council for eight years. Pleasanton city councilmembers are limited to two four-year and Brown is reaching her council term limit.
Brown has served as vice mayor for two of her years on the council, she said in a statement announcing her candidacy.

“I have the experience needed to lead the city, and to take on the challenges our city faces as we recover from our current economic hardships, manage our public health and listen to residents’ concerns about city and police policies," she said in the statement. "I remain committed to listening to you and being your voice in city leadership."
Brown said she has long been wary of builder and developer campaign contributions in local elections, and will not accept donations from builders looking to influence her vote. She encouraged other Pleasanton candidates to do the same.

If elected, she said she will support conservative growth policies, reviewing police policies, preserving the character of downtown by avoiding buildings three stories or taller.
Though Zone 7 is considering allowing recycled sewer water to be used as drinking water, Brown said she does not support so-called toilet-to-tap drinking water.
Brown has secured several endorsements from Pleasanton officials, including former Mayor Jennifer Hosterman.
"I like the way she thinks and her approach to the issues," Hosterman said in the statement. "I especially appreciate the way she interacts with the public, and with her fellow Council members."
Brown said she has a background in the semiconductor industry and holds a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University.
The general election will be held Nov. 3.
