The event has grown each year, last year’s event enabled the organization to increase the number of scholarships from 5 to 11 for this year’s PUSD graduating seniors. The event held on August 17th raised $23,000, a 50% increase over the prior year, as well as a 40% increase in the number of attendees, both all time highs for the event.

Those attending the event enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the music of the band “Rusty Vinyl”, who donated their time and music. A huge display of Auction Items added to the success of the evening. Thanks go to many local donors for auction items. Even other local nonprofits lent their help and expertise, thanks to Melanie Sadek and her staff from Valley Humane and Gretchen Kyle of Big Bay Ray. Many thanks to the attendees for their generous contributions.

Former Scholarship Recipient, Delaney Roehrs, class of 2022, gave a wonderful talk expressing her thanks to the Community of Character for starting her on her journey of successes. She recently graduated from Las Positas Community College with a 4.0 GPA and will be attending UC Berkeley this year, she has been achieving straight A grades. Coming from a very difficult background, she is on the road to success.

The food and drink for the event was donated by members of the board, so there was no cost to put on the event, the exception being credit card charges, so nearly 100% of funds received is applied to the scholarship fund.
