Dr. Janelle Woodward Relocates From SoCal To Serve PUSD

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Janelle Woodward as assistant superintendent of teaching and learning. Woodward, who has most recently served in Southern California, was approved by the board during its June 25 regular meeting.

With more than 30 years of educational experience, Woodward has been working for the last three years as a senior leadership associate with the Leadership Institute of Riverside County, a subdivision of the Riverside County Office of Education. Her work there included serving as a coach to site administrators throughout the county and leading a variety of professional growth opportunities, network meetings, and county-wide programs.

“As an educator and proven site leader at all levels Dr. Woodward will be invaluable to our teaching and learning division, enhancing our focus of classroom instruction and keeping student learning at the core of everything we do,” said PUSD superintendent David Haglund, Ed.D. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Janelle Woodward to join our PUSD leadership team.”

Over the years, Woodward has been named “Principal of the Year” by the Riverside Unified School District and “Principal of the Year” by the Riverside Council Parent-Teacher Association, according to the PUSD.

“I am thrilled to join and serve our Pleasanton students, staff and community,” Woodward said. “It is an honor to support and enhance the exciting work underway at the Pleasanton Unified School District, and to engage with all stakeholders on a deeper level in this wonderfully vibrant community.”

Woodward earned her Bachelor of Science in communications from Cal Poly Pomona, and her Masters Degree in educational administration from Chapman University. She later was part of the first doctoral program cohort at Cal Poly Pomona where she earned her Doctor of Education in 2015. This year, Woodward was selected to represent the College of Education and Integrative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona as its 2019 “Distinguished Alumni.”

Woodward volunteers with numerous organizations, including serving on the board for both the California League of High Schools and the California League of Middle Schools, was the Riverside County Coordinator for the California Distinguished Schools program, and founded the Top Scholars Award celebration for continuation school students in Riverside County. She was also recently appointed to serve as a member of the California Practitioners Advisory Group (CPAG), which advises the State Board of Education on matters pertaining to educational policy.
