Driver Dies In Pleasanton After Car Hits Tree, Sparks Fire: CHP

A car reported went off an embankment on the Bernal Avenue offramp and hit a tree, sparking a fire.

PLEASANTON, CA — A driver was killed Sunday in Pleasanton after their car hit a tree, setting it on fire.

The crash and fire occurred at around 6:30 p.m., when a car got off southbound I-680 at the Bernal Avenue offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car went down an embankment on the offramp and crashed into a large tree, CHP-Dublin Officer Kevin Bjonerud told Pleasanton Weekly.

The crash sparked flames, and soon the vehicle was engulfed. CHP closed the slow lane and shut down the off-ramp for about two hours while firefighters from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department put out the fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name and identity has not been given.
