Eagle Scout Award for Abhinav Garg

Abhinav Garg has qualified to become an Eagle Scout and received the award at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on July 1, 2024. Abhinav is the son of Piyush Garg and Shalini Goel of Pleasanton, California. He is a member of Troop 908, sponsored by St. Clare's Episcopal Church. Many thanks go to his scoutmaster Amit Sathe for his dedication and help along the way.

Active in Scouting, Abhinav Garg has held leadership positions as Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Abhinav loves scouting because it provides a platform for young people like him to develop life skills such as leadership, communication, planning, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-management. It provides a sense of belonging within the Scouting community of millions of people.

For his Eagle project, Abhinav and his team of Scouts built and installed three rectangular-shaped wood tables for Sycamore Grove Park in Livermore which needed tables for a new nursery. The tables will be used to do gardening work and keep different types of plants in small pots. These tables were made of redwood with no toxic content including in any paint. The project involved 21 people working for over 125 hours.

Gilberto Rodriguez of Sycamore Grove Park was pleased with the construction and quality of the tables and appreciated Abhinav’s efforts and commitment for helping the park saying, “these tables will be tremendous for the new nursery we are building.”

Abhinav will be a senior at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California. His interests include computer science (especially artificial intelligence), mathematics, economics and geography. He is the Founder and President of the the Geography Club at AVHS, President of Spanish Honors Society, and a Software Engineer on AVBotz Team.

He is also the Founder of Soar To Eagle, a web-based platform which allows Scouts to connect with Eagle Scout mentors to receive guidance on earning the Eagle Scout rank.

In the future, he would like to pursue a career in academia, researching in the field of machine learning (ML) or algorithms, or pursue a career in industry as a software engineer or ML engineer.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit badges including the areas of citizenship, camping, communications, cooking and lifesaving or emergency preparedness as well as demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They must also plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project benefiting a religious institution, school, or community group.
