Fire Causes $200,000 Worth of Damage to Pleasanton Home
Fire officials say no one was injured during the blaze.
On January 11, 2015, The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) responded to the report of a structure fire in the 1200 block of Concord St. at 5:48 p.m. The first Fire Engine arrived on scene at 5:53 p.m. and found that the house was actually located in the 3600 block of Touriga Drive.
On their arrival, they found a single family detached home with the garage on fire. The family met firefighters outside and let them know that everyone had gotten out safely. Firefighters were able to extinguish the bulk of the fire in about 15 minutes, but were involved in an extensive overhaul due to challenges created by the construction of a metal roof over an older wood shake roof.
The fire got in between the wood shakes and metal roof decking and traveled across the front of the garage. The firefighting effort was further slowed by the lumber supporting the roof burning out from underneath the roof creating a collapse risk and preventing firefighters on the roof from reaching portions of the burn area. These factors led to around 90 minutes before the fire was completely extinguished.

No injuries to the occupants, pets or firefighters were reported. The fire appears to have started in the garage and was confined to the garage with the exception of light smoke damage throughout the residence. The garage and its contents suffered major damage. The cause is suspected to have been accidental from a smoldering cloth that was placed in the garage. Total damage is estimated at $200,000.
