Grainbakers Baking School

Grainbakers offers one-of-a-kind whole-grain breadmaking classes and soft pretzel-making workshops. We are honored to be in a guest residency at Pans on Fire, the beloved Pleasanton cooking school. We are also well known for wholesome staff team builders hosted right at your office. Spent grain and brewer's barley are healthy whole grains recycled from the brewing process. Our 90-minute workshops are hosted at some of the country's best breweries, and they often sell out fast. Classes blend fun, relaxation, and the pride of saying "I made that." Whether you are brand new to breadmaking or a seasoned sourdough pro craving a fresh twist, you are welcome here. We especially love showing homebrewers how to transform that beautiful spent grain and brewer's barley into something extraordinary. Every workshop pairs you with friendly Teaching Assistants who guide you through mixing, shaping, and prepping your dough. You leave with oven-ready dough to bake fresh at home, plus recipes and tips to keep the magic going in your own kitchen. The aromas, the laughter, and the brewery atmosphere all add up to a night you will remember. This is a fun night out that is also an affordable night out. Most cooking classes are very expensive, and many paint-and-sip or craft classes burn through supplies, create a pile of trash, and still come with a hefty price tag. Grainbakers keeps it simple and satisfying. A warm setting, a hands-on experience, and something genuinely useful and delicious to take home. PLEASANTON, CA — Livermore-Pleasanton firefighters quickly extinguished an early morning garage fire Sunday, fire officials said via Twitter. The blaze was reported in the 300 block of Oak Lane at 12:25 a.m., according to the Pulsepoint phone application. No injuries were reported and at least one car parked inside was damaged. Lesher Center for the Arts

The Diablo Symphony concludes its 63rd season with a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m., at the Lesher Center for the Arts. The difficulties under which Shostakovich (by then under condemnation by Stalin’s regime) composed in 1937 permeate the deep and complex emotions of this extraordinary work. The program also features works by two American composers—Aaron Copland and Daniel Pesca—that celebrate the joys and bravery of everyday existence. Composed in 1942, in response to the U.S. entry into World War II, Copland’s "Fanfare for the Common Man” pays tribute to the heroism of the common person on the home front. And, in this west coast premiere of Pesca’s “Up North” piano concerto—performed by the composer—listeners will be transported by musically depicted moments of cheer, nostalgia, charm, and the warmth of family remembered from childhood trips taken from Alabama up to Northern Michigan each summer. With these three works, performed side-by-side under the direction of conductor Matilda Hofman, the program explores the entire gamut of human emotions. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Lesher Center box office (925-943-7469, Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.) or through the DSO’s website, diablosymphony.org. Adult tickets are $45, and youth tickets are $15. A discount for senior groups of 10 or more is available, and children 12 and under are free but need a ticket to have a seat. Tickets will also be available at the door.
