Sailors Learning is an organization formed by four students from Foothill High School: Abyan Das, Milan Suresh, Sanjay Adhikesaven, and Monish Muralicharan. The objective of this program is to spread accessible learning for elementary and middle schoolers.

When they started their program, they decided it was necessary to make their tutoring be free, so parents of all backgrounds could sign their children up for tutoring, and so the learning really is accessible. Sailors Learning is a place for your child to get free, online help in school and help them explore their interests. They founded Sailors At Home Learning to help children who are struggling to learn topics with distance learning as well as to provide programs for them to explore their interests.

Furthermore, they offer extracurricular classes to students interested in Science, Math, Coding, and History. They teach children over Zoom, an online video conference service, which many children already use in regular schooling.

Sailors Learning has a Four Step Process To Register Your child in their program:

  1. Coordinate With Your Child's Teacher: The easiest way to assess your child's needs is talking directly to their teacher. Having this information allows them to focus on specific areas of study and help your child improve more efficiently.
  2. Fill Out their Quick Google Form: The purpose of their initial google form is knowing your contact information as well as communicating your child's needs, interests, and preferences. We use some of this information to match your child up with an appropriate tutor.
  3. Register A Meeting With Them: A meeting with you helps them learn more about your child, which allows them to offer the students personalized learning to fit their needs. It also allows them to discuss and plan out a schedule that fits your child's needs.
  4. Explore Our Additional Course Offerings: They believe that having children explore different areas of education helps them explore and develop their interests. This is why they offer various weekly group courses in STEM.

How It Works: If you signed up for individualized tutoring, your child's tutor will email you ahead of time to organize sessions. These sessions take place on Zoom, a platform for video conferences. The tutor will share the Zoom meeting invitation to you a full day before it starts. For extracurricular group classes, meetings occur at the same, designated time every week. They will email you the Zoom session invite a few hours before it starts. Specific Lessons: Sailors Learning offer various STEM courses for grades 2-8. In addition, they offer courses in fascinating subjects such as History, and we offer a book club for young readers! Please note that their extracurricular classes cover information typically not covered in school subjects. If your child needs help in a specific subject, you should opt to sign them up for individual tutoring sessions and not these group lessons. They recommend their group, outside-school classes for children who find these topics fascinating and want to explore them in detail. Students can join all classes at any time! Their times for classes can be found on their website as well as a specific course plan for each extracurricular they teach. Long-Term Plans: After distance learning ends, they plan on continuing to use their resources in order to help struggling children. In addition, they plan on expanding on to helping high schoolers with their classes as well!
