Fund Set Up to Help Victim's Family

The Pleasanton teen was killed as he crossed the street Sunday evening.

Amador Valley High School officials have raised more than $7,500 as of this afternoon for the family of a student who was killed while walking near downtown Pleasanton on Sunday evening.

A school psychologist and counselor started the fundraising effort on GoFundMe after learning of the death of high school junior Jorge Barraza, a 17-year-old Pleasanton resident.

Barraza was walking in the area of Abbie and First streets at about 6:20 p.m. when he was hit by a car. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigators. “This tragedy has left his family in desperate need of the community’s support as this is an unexpected financial hardship,” Amador Valley school officials said on the GoFundMe page.

“The funds raised will go to Jorge’s family for funeral expenses, as well as any additional costs they may incur at this time.” The GoFundMe page is located at www.gofundme.com/helpjorgesfamily.
