IKEA To Open New "Plan And Order" Store In Pleasanton

The company said it will open a 2,100-square-foot store focused on design consultation and order pickups this summer.

PLEASANTON, CA — IKEA plans to open a 2,100-square-foot “Plan and Order Point with Pick-Up” in summer 2026 at Johnson Drive in Pleasanton, the company announced.

The new store marks a move away from the giant, all-in-one warehouse stores for which the Swedish retailer has become known. Under the new format, customers will be able to meet with an IKEA employee to plan and order home furnishing solutions that may require design support, such as kitchens, bedrooms, or bathrooms. Customers can then arrange home delivery or store pick-up. Online shoppers will be able to pick up qualifying orders at the Pleasanton location by selecting it as their preferred pick-up location at checkout.

The new location will not feature the amenities offered by larger locations, like a food court or play area.

“I'm beyond excited to welcome customers to our new Plan and order point with Pick-up in Pleasanton this Summer 2026,” IKEA Emeryville Market Manager Arda Akalin said in a statement. “This new store location is perfect for customers who are looking to purchase affordable home furnishings, plan new design projects, and create a home they love. IKEA Pleasanton brings our signature design solutions to the Tri-Valley community—making it more accessible, more convenient, and of course, more affordable.”

IKEA opened its first Bay Area location in Emeryville in 2000, and now has locations in San Francisco and Palo Alto. It had planned for many years to build a 317,000-square-foot store and a 93,000-square-foot commercial center on 28 parcels in eastern Dublin, but announced last fall that it intends to sell the property and shift its focus toward developing smaller format stores like the one planned in Pleasanton.
