Kid Commissioners: Pleasanton Council Could Let Youth Vote

Youth members of four city commissions might be able to vote on agenda items, Pleasanton Weekly reported.

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton's youth could have a greater say in city matters, thanks to an initiative spearheaded by the city's Youth Commission, Pleasanton Weekly reported.

The Youth Commission, an all-youth body, asked the City Council to consider allowing youth members serving on city commissions to vote on agenda items, Pleasanton Weekly reported. The Library, Civic Arts, and Parks and Recreation commissions gave the Youth Commission the go-ahead, but the Human Services Commission opposed the effort.

The council voted 4-1 to pass the matter on an initial vote and reading. It's up for a vote before the full council again at the Jan. 21 meeting, according to Pleasanton Weekly.
