Las Positas College Sports Recap: Hawks Revving Up

The Hawks women's soccer team is coming off a 3-0 triumph over Foothill in conference play.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Las Positas extended its unbeaten streak to three with a 3-0 triumph at Foothill on Friday, Oct. 21. Tiana LaFleur started the scoring with her fifth goal of the season off a Danielle Castro assist in the 35th minute. After an own goal upped the margin to 2-0 in the 55th minute, Las Positas rounded out the scoring five minutes later on a goal by Danielle Gettler assisted by Lisette Contreras.
The Hawks host Canada at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and then will host Evergreen Valley on Nov. 4.
Las Positas (8-4-3, 2-1-1 Coast-South) enters the week in third place in the conference.
In recent action, the Hawks routed Ohlone 9-0 and tied Skyline 1-1, on a clutch goal by Castro in the 85th minute assisted by Tifanni Cheng.
WOMEN’ S VOLLEYBALL
Las Positas, in a building campaign under new head coach Jamie Hadenfeldt, who was hired right before the season, earned its first win of the season, 3-0 over host Skyline on Oct. 14. The scores were 25-8, 25-21, 25-20.
Rachel Dayton powered the Hawks with match highs of 19 kills and 16 digs.
The Hawks dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Ohlone on Oct. 21 as Dayton led the way with 18 kills and nine digs. The scores were 25-10, 25-22, 23-25, 25-9.
A trio of Las Positas players had eight digs, Stefanni Santos, Sophia Kim and Rachel Tuazon.
MEN’S SOCCER
Rylan Stowell scored the lone goal for Las Positas in a 4-1 loss to De Anza on Sept. 18. Edwin Zabala had the assist in the 35th minute.
In a recent 1-0 win over Ohlone, Christian Neves scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute off a double assist from Zabala and Justin Truax.
Freshman Collin Miller and Zabala share in the team lead in goals with five apiece. Zabala, who has four assists, leads the team in points with 14.
WATER POLO
The stage is set for a first-place showdown between State No. 1 West Valley (21-1, 3-0) and Las Positas (17-10, 3-0) in the Coast Conference on Wednesday at West Valley, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
The Hawks beat visiting Ohlone 12-8 on Sophomore day. Zach Perry led the Hawks with four goals, and Kyle Young added three goals and three assists. Ryan Lichlyter and Patrick Aiello added two goals apiece.
Las Positas is ranked in the “others” category, just outside the top 10.

On Friday, Oct. 28, LPC is hosting part of the NorCal Crossover tournament (top 4 teams). Outcomes of these games will help seed NorCal playoffs Nov 11-12. Here is the schedule:
