Las Positas Soccer Kicking Into Gear

Hawks women's and men's teams are off to strong starts this season

Las Positas soccer roundup
Sophomore forward Marisa Marquez, a Granada High graduate, scored twice in the first half as the Las Positas women’s soccer team bested visiting Yuba 2-0 on Friday.
The Hawks (4-1-0) led 1-0 in the 28th minute as Marquez scored off a double-assist from Lauren Soliz (Dougherty Valley) and Alyssa Fitting (San Leandro). Marquez upped the margin 10 minutes later off a double-assist from Danielle Castro (Granada) and Ava Buckles (San Ramon Valley), the goalkeeper who worked a shutout.
On Thursday, Fitting scored two goals early in the match as Las Positas (3-1-0) rolled to a 4-0 win over Siskiyous on Sept. 8. Soliz and Tiana LaFleur (Heritage) rounded out the scoring in the second half. Reina Kyriacou (California) and Irie O’Donnell (Dougherty Valley) combined to assist Fitting’s second goal, in the seventh minute.
Ashley Arno (California) assisted Soliz’s goal that made it 3-0 in the 55th minute. LaFleur scored unassisted in the 75th minute.

MEN’S SOCCER
The Las Positas men’s soccer team (3-0-1) stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 win over visiting Siskiyous on Sept. 8. Edwin Zabala (Granada), Grant LaFleur (Freedom) and Colin Miller (Monte Vista) scored for the Hawks in the second half to break the game open.
The match was moved from the afternoon to the evening to escape the scorching temperatures during the heat wave.
Dylan Ersham (San Ramon Valley) and Zabala assisted the first two goals and Adam Chapman (Dublin) and Parker Moore (Granada) both had assists on the third goal.
Zabala and Moore also scored in a come-from-behind, 2-2 draw with host Modesto on Wednesday. The Hawks have shown grit early in the season and attacking flare while scoring in bunches. Miller’s dramatic tying goal came in the 90th minute. In a wild 5-3 win over visiting Feather River on Sept. 1, Christian Neves (West), Zabala, and Ryan Stowell (Antioch) scored in the 75th, 80th and 83rd minutes as the Hawks erased a 3-2 deficit to triumph.
Zabala had a team-high four goals and 10 total points after the Siskiyous game.
