Las Positas Swimmers Keep Shining in Day 2 Of Coast Meet
Sand breaks team record in women's 100-yard breaststroke

The host Las Positas College men’s and women’s swimming teams delivered clutch performances in Friday's Day 2 of the Coast Conference Championships.
“Another great day with some great competition,” Las Positas coach Jason Craighead said.
In a big highlight, the Hawks’ Ashley Sand won the conference title in the women’s 100 breaststroke (1:07.60) — with her second team-record time of the season. Sand also set a mark in the 200 breaststroke at the Hawk Invite and is looking to break the record again on Saturday, the final day of the meet.
Chabot’s Gillian Cano was second in the 100 breast (1:08.91).
The Hawks’ Ross Brown and Zachary Perry went 1-2 in the 400 IM as they did in the 500 freestyle on Thursday. In Friday's win, Brown was timed in 4:23.13, and Perry checked in at 4:25.53.
Kyle Young got his first victory in the 200 freestyle (1:50.60), prevailing by over two seconds. He’ll be looking to win the 1,650 conference crown on Saturday.
The Las Positas men also won the 800 free relay title on Friday in a blowout with a time of 7:17.58. The team was Brown, Perry, Young, and Franco Moufarrej.
Moufarrej, who won the 50 freestyle title on Thursday, was second in Friday's 100 breaststroke final (58.89).
The Hawks' women were second behind West Valley in the 200 medley relay. Sarah Thompson was third in the women’s 400 IM (5:06.00), and Cano was second in 4:54.66.
In the women's 200 free final, a trio of Las Positas swimmers took places three, four and five. Gabrielle Benavidez was timed in 2:04.42, Kendalyn Cox 2:04.45 and Samantha Dorn 2:05.61.
Craighead’s team is in a close battle with West Valley for the team championship.
“We need a solid day (Saturday) to make a run at a championship,” he assured.
