Love Tuna? New Leaf Now Serves Safe Catch Tuna

Safe Catch is the only brand that tests every single tuna for mercury. Their deli tuna has a mercury limit that 10x strickter then the FDA.

New Leaf Community Markets has partnered with Safe Catch to bring its deli customers Safe Catch’s new, award winning tuna. Safe Catch inspects every tuna for quality, verifies sustainability and tests every tuna for mercury. New Leaf’s deli is the first in Pleasanton to serve this product. Safe Catch will also be available in New Leaf’s grocery aisle with canned albacore.

“We are thrilled to launch Safe Catch tuna at New Leaf Community Markets. It truly demonstrates their leadership in the sustainable seafood movement, and their shared commitment to foods that are healthy for people and the environment,” said Safe Catch founders Bryan Boches and Sean Wittenberg. “Safe Catch is taking quality and safety of tuna to a new level,” said Sarah Owens, New Leaf’s marketing director. “Safe Catch is a great fit with our commitment to offer the best of the best to our customers. Plus, it is sustainably ranked under the FishWise program, our existing sustainable seafood program that educates people about healthy choices right at the seafood counter.” In 2003, New Leaf helped pioneer and launch FishWise, which is now being used at eco-minded retailers across the U.S.

Safe Catch is the only brand on the market that tests every single tuna for mercury. Safe Catch deli tuna has a mercury limit that is 10X stricter than the FDA. Safe Catch is the Official Tuna of the American Pregnancy Association and is Paleo Certified. “We want athletes, moms and kids to feel great about tuna,” says Boches. “Most people just want to know why it looks and tastes better. We tell them this is just how pure, simple and patiently cooked tuna tastes.” Unlike conventional tuna, Safe Catch raw-packs its tuna to seal in all of the nutrients and flavor.

Conventional tuna is precooked and then cooked again in a money-saving process that drains nutrients and many Omega 3s. Safe Catch hand packs tuna steaks in lieu of machine packing for better texture. Safe Catch doesn’t use any chemical additives or cheap fillers and is BPA-, Gluten- and GMO- free. The last step is Safe Catch’s unique, artisan cook process: “Just once. Just right.”
