Manu Beats Buzzer, Las Positas Women Win A Thriller
Cavness breaks program record with 31 rebounds in rewarding road triumph

Ranaye Manu made a layup at the buzzer to give the Las Positas women’s basketball team a thrilling 59-57 win in overtime over host Mission College in overtime Wednesday night.
State standout Monique Cavness, an El Cerrito High graduate, set a Las Positas program record recording 31 rebounds, to go with three steals.
Wins have been hard to come by for the young Hawks, but they keep battling.
“I’m extremely proud of how hard our team plays,” said first-year head coach Caleb Theodore. “We are finishing the season on a high note simply due to their will and desire to not give up. Our record does not define us. We have been able to upset teams with victory because we have continued to commit to our process.”
Manu, a freshman guard out of Patterson, amassed 20 points, nine rebounds and three assists, and Semaj Steen (Lathrop) had eight points, 11 rebounds and an assist.
The Hawks finish the season at Ohlone on Friday in the Coast-North Conference.
