PLEASANTON, CA — A plan to demolish the old Denny's restaurant at 6455 Owens Drive and build a 10,980-square-foot, single-story, multi-tenant commercial building at the site is being considered this week by the Pleasanton Planning Commission.

During its Sept. 25 meeting, the planning commission will decide whether to recommend that city council allow the plan to move forward and rezone the site to accommodate the proposal.

The 3,510-square-foot Denny's restaurant closed down approximately four years ago. The plan to turn the site into retail, service and office came forward from property owner Abbas Mash. The applicant has been working with the city on the plan since the Denny's closure, according to city documents.

A public workshop was held on the matter in September 2016, but no members of the public spoke on the proposed project. During the workshop, commissioners gave a thumbs down to the possibility of any drive-thru businesses — such as fast food — for the development due to traffic concerns. A plan to remove certain trees on the property to accommodate new construction was green-lighted.

Wednesday's planning commission meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Council Chamber, 200 Old Bernal Avenue.
