PLEASANTON, CA — The City of Pleasanton is welcoming two new hires. Teri Yan, a California High School graduate who earned a bachelor of arts degree in radio and television from San Francisco State University, has joined the city as public relations coordinator, it was announced Friday. Justin Qualle, a lateral officer from the Ripon Police Department, was sworn in during a special ceremony Wednesday morning at the Pleasanton Police Department.

During her career, Yan worked in the marketing department for news agencies such as KTVU FOX2 and FOX23 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Most recently, she worked for the San Francisco Police Department and spent three and a half years producing digital content targeting officers and the public, according to the City of Pleasanton.

Officer Qualle was born in Stockton and raised in Ripon, California. He graduated summa cum laude from California State University Stanislaus with a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice. He became interested in a law enforcement career after being hit by a drunk driver when he was in the 4th grade, according to the city.

"The incident made Justin appreciate the care and service provided by the first responders along
with the members in the medical field. He wanted to become a police officer so he could help others in need no matter what the circumstances," an announcement from the city read.

Qualle graduated from the San Joaquin Delta College POST Intensive Academy in February 2017 and soon after was hired as a reserve officer by the Ripon Police Department. He ultimately earned a full-time position and within a year received the American Legion’s POST 190 Officer of the Year Award, according to the city.
