New Leaf Community Markets raised $2,719 in customer donations for Community Alliance with Family Farmers’ (CAFF) Farm to School Program.
The funds will provide 22 classrooms with Harvest of the Month Tasting Kits during the 2013-14 school year. The kits include curriculum to enable instructors to teach students about healthy food and farming, and locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables for kids to taste. Kits will be distributed to classrooms in San Jose in the Franklin McKinley and Oak Grove School Districts, and in Santa Cruz City schools.
The Harvest of the Month Tasting Kit Program served 25,664 students in Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties during the 2012-2013 school year. More information about the program is available at: http://caff.org/programs/farm-2-school/hotm/
