New Shadow Cliffs Solar Carport Will Save Money, Provide Shade
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday.
PLEASANTON, CA — A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area to celebrate the debut of a solar carport system, which kicks off a major District-wide energy efficiency project for the East Bay Regional Park District.
“The project includes solar panels that will now generate 1.2 megawatts of energy annually – enough to offset electricity use for almost the entire Park District – along with three electric-car charging stations, a new recycled water line, and planting of native trees," district officials said in a statement.
Anyone who has visited Shadow Cliffs knows it can get hot out there and the new panels will help provide additional shade.

“We’re thrilled to undertake this important project that will save energy, water and money for decades to come,” said EBRPD Board President Beverly Lane.
Officials said the project, which cost about $7.5 million, was paid from the District’s general fund and will pay for itself through electricity savings throughout the District – in roughly 14 to 17 years.
