PLEASANTON, CA — Despite the coronavirus pandemic leading to cancellations of many holiday events, rest assured you can still get the wits scared out of you this Halloween season in Pleasanton. The legendary "Pirates of Emerson" will return to the Alameda County Fairgrounds with a new, haunted drive-thru experience.

Organizers of the East Bay's acclaimed, annual attraction said they opted for the new "contact-less" format for 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation, as trying to "responsibly" meld a walk-though, haunted house with social distancing did not seem feasible.

“I am excited the Pirates of Emerson is bringing its debut of a Haunted Drive-Thru Experience to the fairgrounds this October,” said Brian Fields, vice president of operations for the seasonal event, adding that the car-friendly revamp will double the haunt's previous size and cover more than 10 acres of fairground property.

The immersive, drive-thru show will allow attendees to remain in their vehicles while tuning into a soundtrack via FM radio, he said. And, of course, the fright factor will not be forgotten: Expect actors, large-scale sets, animatronics, smoke, snow and flames.

Karl and Patty Fields, owners of POE Productions, called the logistical changes "immense, but very rewarding."
