Pleasanton Gets New Planning Division Director
Melinda Denis has a background in community planning and has been with the city since 2016.

PLEASANTON, Calif. —The City of Pleasanton announces the promotion of MelindaDenis as the new deputy director of community development and manager of planning and permit center effective January 1, 2020.

Since 2016, Melinda has served as the community development department’s permit center manager working with planning and building workflows, customer service and project coordination. She was instrumental in helping coordinate the buildout of the new Workday headquarters and was recently serving as the interim planning manager overseeing much of the planning division’s workload.
In her new role, Denis will manage the planning division and continue to oversee key aspects of the permit center and code enforcement functions.

“Melinda has extensive private and public sector experience in architecture, planning and community development, said city manager Nelson Fialho. “Her proven track record of improving workflow within the City’s planning, building and code enforcement makeMelinda a natural to step into this new role.”
Prior to her service in Pleasanton, Denis worked as an assistant planner for the City ofCampbell, and was an associate planner, deputy zoning administrator, and zoning administrator for the City of Mountain View where she also served as chair of the City’s development and review committee. Some large notable projects she worked on include
Google, LinkedIn, Synopsys, as well as mixed use residential projects and long-range planning assignments.Denis has a bachelor’s of science degree in interior design and architecture, and a masters degree in urban planning both from San Jose State University.
