Pleasanton Hires New Finance Director

Susan Hsieh, the former finance director in San Leandro and Emeryville, brings over 20 years of financial management experience.

PLEASANTON, CA — Susan Hsieh started Monday as Pleasanton’s new director of finance, the city announced.

Hsieh brings more than 20 years of financial experience in both the public and private sector. She comes to Pleasanton from San Leandro, where she served as finance director from 2020 to 2022. Before that, she served as finance director and treasurer for Emeryville from 2016 to 2020. For seven years before that, Hsieh served as assistant finance director and assistant CFO for the Association of Bay Area Governments, a regional planning agency incorporating local governments in the nine Bay Area counties.

Before joining the public sector, Hsieh led audit engagements and financial statement audits for Grant Thornton, a national accounting firm. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in business administration from Cal State East Bay.

In Pleasanton, Hsieh will continue efforts to maintain its good fiscal standing. “Pleasanton is an exceptionally well-managed city, and I am excited to join this well-regarded organization. I look forward to working with the City Council and staff to serve the community,” Hsieh said in a statement.

“We are pleased to have Susan join the City’s executive team. Her extensive public finance experience coupled with her private sector experience are welcomed and her collaborative approach will make her a great fit,” Pleasanton City Manager Gerry Beaudin said in a statement.
