Pleasanton Kids Compete On Fifes, Drums To Win Awards
The "YAPs" as they call themselves, were founded in 2010 and have played at 110 community & charitable events, mostly in the area.
From YAP: Pleasanton's "Young American Patriots Fife & Drum Corps" held its biannual music competition during the Independence Day festivities at Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. "The kids work hard for this, and competing for seniority in the band as well as for the gold, silver and bronze medals makes them better musicians," says the group's founder Jason Giaimo.
The "YAPs" as they call themselves, were founded in 2010 and have played at 110 community & charitable events, mostly in the Pleasanton/Dublin area. They wear the uniforms of George Washington's Continental Army and play the music of America's founding on the traditional instruments used in 1776: fifes (like small flutes), and wooden drums. "We teach music, history and leadership to kids 9+ years old in the TriValley area," says Giaimo. Find out more about this unique Pleasanton group at YoungAmericanPatriots.com.
