Pleasanton Looks To Involve Public In Police Policy Conversation
A community listening session and review of existing policies could be coming in the future.
PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton City Council will consider ways to get the public involved in a discussion about community policing at a special meeting next week.
At the council's request, the city is presenting for consideration a plan to facilitate a community listening session this month followed by a review of current police procedures in August or September, council records show.
The council could also consider longer-term changes, such as allocating more money toward or away from the current police budget.

"In this critical time of national concern about police legitimacy and criticism of the law enforcement profession, there is a genuine need and desire to overcome complex societal issues and promote effective crime reduction while continuing to build public trust," wrote City Manager Nelson Fialho, and Pleasanton Police Chief David Swing in their recommendations to the council.
The action plan will be considered at a special meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
