Pleasanton Man Charged With Manslaughter For Fatal Crash: Report

Police allege that Jesus "Jesse" Mangabay was speeding and may have had drugs in his system when he fatally sideswiped another car.

PLEASANTON, CA — A Pleasanton man is charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for a crash on Hopyard Road that killed a mother and seriously injured her son, Pleasanton Weekly reported.

Pleasanton police allege that Jesus “Jesse” Ocampo Mangabay, 35, was driving 64 mph, approximately 20 mph over the speed limit when he sideswiped another car and caused it to crash into a pole on Feb. 14. Police also allege that toxicology testing identified the presence of a compound created when the body starts to metabolize cocaine, and THC, the main active ingredient of cannabis.

48-year-old Pleasanton resident Ana Paula Munaretto, a kid club aide in Pleasanton schools, died two days after the crash, the Weekly reported.

Mangabay was charged with a single misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear in Alameda County Superior Court in Dublin Tuesday.
