Pleasanton Police To Community: 'We Hear You'
Police said they're creating an online tool to help the public better understand Pleasanton PD's use-of-force policies.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Pleasanton Police Department has a message for people who have concerns about police use of force: "We hear you."
Police said many of the inquiries they've received have been related to Campaign Zero's 8 Can't Wait campaign, which calls for police departments to commit to eight use-of-force policies that organizers say can reduce violent interactions, such as requiring police to exhaust all other options before shooting, banning chokeholds and strangleholds, having a requirement to intervene when other officers are using excessive force, and giving a warning before firing a gun. The Pleasanton Police Department said it's working on an online tool that will make clear how the department's policies stack up to Campaign Zero's recommendations.
Police said the online feature will be coming soon, but police policies can be found here until then.

"We acknowledge the challenges of policing and understand there is more work to be done," police wrote. "We encourage constructive dialogue and genuine engagement through our interactions with one another to decide together how we — as a community — make our city a better place."
