Pleasanton Reports Decrease In Fireworks-Related Calls

Even with the decrease, dispatch still reported hundreds of calls.

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton received 22 percent fewer fireworks-related calls in 2023 than it did in 2022, according to PPD spokesperson Teri Yan.

Still, PPD dispatch received over 250 fireworks-related calls, Yan said. By contrast, San Ramon only reported 27, while Livermore reported nearly 110 calls.

The department did not report any arrests or citations related to fireworks on July 4.

While Pleasanton reported a decrease from 2022, Alameda County recorded an 11.4 percent increase in emergency calls, and extinguished at least 17 fires suspected to be caused by illegal fireworks, according to Alameda County Fire Department Cheryl Hurd. Fires broke out in Union City and in an unincorporated area near Lake Chabot. No injuries were caused and no homes were burned, Hurd said.

Meanwhile, Contra Costa County officials confirmed nearly 200 emergency calls, including 82 fires, more than 60 of which are believed to be linked to fireworks. A three-acre grass fire in Walnut Creek was likely caused by fireworks, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
