Pleasanton Residents Among San Francisco Marathon Participants
There were 26 Pleasanton residents who ran the full marathon race out of the 24,000 registered runners.
Of the 24,000 registered runners for the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, 26 of the full marathon finishers were from Pleasanton.
Other Pleasanton runners included 55 participants in the half marathon races and four others in the 5-kilometer race.
Runners made their way through a route that included San Francisco sights including Embarcadero, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio and Golden Gate Park.

Pleasanton runners in the full marathon ranged in age from 23 to 67.
The fastest among the Pleasanton runners were Norman Sitter and Carsten Fortmann. Both men ran at a pace of one mile under every 9 minutes.

Sitter finished at 3:47:01 and Fortmann clocked in five minutes later at 3:52:28.
Marianne Paulson, was the first Pleasanton woman to cross the finish line, just two minutes after Fortmann at 3:54:35.
The top runners in the marathon, Keith Bechtol and Emily Hardin, completed the course in 2:23:29 and 2:51:55, respectively. Bechtol is from Palo Alto and Hardin is from Alabama.
