Pleasanton Sears May Be Replaced With Grocery Store, Health Club
The Simon Property Group has proposed a major renovation project for the vacant store at the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Simon Property Group submitted plans to the City of Pleasanton to replace the vacant Sears building with a speciality grocery store, movie theater and health club, according to city records. The plan, which was submitted in January, proposes demolishing the entire store and parking structure at the Stoneridge Shopping Center to make room for the new businesses.
In February, the Planning Commission met to discuss the proposed renovation. In October of 2018, Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, announcing the closure of 142 unprofitable locations. Yet another round of closings were announced by the company in November, which included 40 stores set to close by February 2019, according to USA Today.
