PLEASANTON, CA — A kid who attended Amador Valley High School and graduated in 2000 keeps hanging around his hometown, and for good reason. Wednesday, Officer Anthony Pittl was promoted to the rank of sergeant with the Pleasanton Police Department.

"After graduating from Amador Valley High School, Anthony Pittl joined the Marine Corps. He deployed to Kuwait and was involved in combat operations as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom," according to the Pleasanton PD. "Upon his return, Anthony went on a ride-a-long with a family friend at the Pleasanton Police Department and immediately knew that a career in law enforcement was what he wanted to do. We hired Anthony in 2009 and he soon joined the East County Tactical Team and became a Force Options instructor. Just prior to his promotion, Anthony was working as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Unit."

In June, Pittl was honored by the Rotary Club of Pleasanton as a "City Employee of the Year."

"Detective Pittl has consistently demonstrated an outstanding work ethic and team-orientation across multiple disciplines during his 10 years with the department," Pleasanton City Manager Nelson Fialho said at the Rotary awards presentation program.

During the Wednesday's promotion ceremony at Pleasanton City Council chambers, the Pleasanton PD also welcomed four men into its police family. Charles Mayo, David Cach and Matthew Campisi were sworn in as officers by Chief David Spiller. Lee Godfrey was sworn in as a Community Service Officer.
