The District will be opening a small student supervision program in response to the Governor's Executive Order N-26-20 from March 13, 2020. In this order, he stated that Districts should support the following activity: "Arrange for, to the extent practicable, supervision for students during ordinary school hours."
To meet the requirements of this order, we've put together a program to support the supervision of our students of parents/guardians who qualify as "essential workers" during this dismissal/Shelter in Place period. To learn more about this program, please review the details below:
Supervision of Students Program
Beginning Tuesday, April 14 and running through Friday, May 29, 2020
Hours of Operation 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on calendared school days
PUSD will provide supervision during school hours to enrolled students of Pleasanton residents.
There will be limited spaces available at two (2) of our school sites.
- Fairlands Elementary School
- Hearst Elementary School
All dates and times are subject to change based on direction from the Alameda County Public Health Department, California Department of Education, or Governor’s Office.
Who Qualifies:
Due to the limited spots available, we are prioritizing space to currently enrolled students (TK-5th grade) of the Pleasanton Unified School District whose parents or guardians have been identified as an “Essential Worker” by their employer. Only essential workers who have been directed to be physically present at their work site by their employer, during the hours of our school day, will be eligible.
- Proof of employment and residency will be required as part of the application process
- In accordance with the guidance from Alameda County Public Health Department, we will not be considering the applications of students who have underlying health conditions or severely weakened immune systems. Also, if family members over the age of 65 live in the home, we discourage applications of your child(ren)
- Parents/Guardians also agree to complete the home health screening each day, prior to entry and have the temperature of their child taken by staff.
How to apply:
If you meet the qualifying criteria above, please complete the following steps.
- Please complete the google interest form linked here.
- Gather 2 proofs of residency from within the last 30 days. PUSD staff will verify residency if you are selected.
- Gather proof of employment and as being designated as “essential.” PUSD staff will verify proof of employment if you are selected.
If we receive more applications than spaces available, we will run a lottery for those who have verified applications.
What child supervision will look like for those selected:
- Alameda County Public Health Department requires that all staff perform a health screening daily. Any staff that appears ill, or who do not pass the employee health screening will not work that day. Staff is required to submit the health screening form daily.
- Supervision services will not include instructional services, although students are able to bring their school work and materials with them, and can work on their assignments
- Staff will follow the guidance of Alameda County Public Health Department to the best of our ability
- Staff and students will be reminded to follow good health hygiene practices issued by the Alameda County Public Health guidelines, such as frequent handwashing
- Designated spaces for supervision will be limited to areas that can provide space for social distancing (siblings will be kept together)
- Parents agree to complete a daily home health screening, and should only bring their child if they have passed the screening questions. Parents will need to submit this document to the Staff daily
- Parents agree to have their child(ren) complete a liability waiver and a Health Screening each morning
- A Health Services Assistant will take the temperature and check symptoms for children upon entry each day
- Students who appear ill, or who do not pass the health screening upon entry will not be allowed to attend. If a student becomes ill during the day, we will move them away from other students and contact parents for immediate pick up
- Staff will sanitize and clean surfaces daily
The District will communicate back with all parents/guardians for students who apply before the end of the day on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Respectfully,
Ed Diolazo
Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services
