Pleasanton Weekends On Main To Restart In May
Streets in downtown Pleasanton will close the first weekend of every month from May to December.

PLEASANTON, CA â The Pleasanton City Council voted Tuesday to finalize the 2022 Weekends on Main schedule, and approve a $100,000 sponsorship from the Business Support Fund for monthly street closures.
The program costs approximately $170,000 to pay for police, downtown cleaning, traffic engineering, and event oversight, according to a staff report.
The Weekends on Main program, which began during the pandemic to allow downtown businesses to expand outdoor operations, will restart the first weekend in May, and last until the first weekend in December. From Friday at 4 p.m. to Sunday at 9 p.m., streets will be closed from the Main Street bridge to south of Bernal Avenue.

Concerts in the Park will also take place each Friday night in July and August, except for the first Friday of each month, the Pleasanton Downtown Association announced Thursday. The PDA said that downtown does not have the parking necessary to accommodate both Weekends on Main and Concerts in the Park.
The Council voted 4-1 to continue the closures once every weekend, with Councilmember Julie Testa dissenting. Testa said that after speaking to restaurant owners, she recommends holding Weekends on Main twice a month.

While restaurant owners generally advocated for more closures as a way to attract customers wary of indoor dining, some retailers called in to say that the program hurt their business, since customers werenât sure how to get to their business.
The PDA said that it will begin working with businesses for cross-promotional activities to encourage more visitors and foot traffic.
