Middle School Teacher Killed in Pleasanton Crash

Carla Boerman, 61, was a passenger in an SUV involved in the three-vehicle wreck that also injured four in Pleasanton.

PLEASANTON, CA – UPDATE: THURSDAY, APRIL 6, 8:15 p.m.

A major injury collision involving three vehicles Tuesday evening in Pleasanton killed a 61-year-old middle school teacher and injured four others.

Officers responded to the intersection of Hopyard Road and Owens Drive at 6:13 p.m., where a Toyota RAV4 collided with a Subaru Outback, resulting in major damage to both vehicles. A Nissan Versa involved in the
collision also sustained moderate damage, according to police.

Investigators believe the Toyota was headed north on Hopyard when it struck the Subaru, which was turning on to eastbound Owens Drive.

A 61-year-old woman from Pleasanton was riding in the Subaru as a passenger. She was transported to a hospital with major injuries and pronounced dead, according to police.

She's been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Carla Boerman.

The driver was transported with major injuries and remains in the hospital as of today. An infant in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. She was treated at a hospital and released, according to police.

The driver and passenger of the Toyota were both transported to a hospital. The driver has already been released but the passenger is still in the hospital, police said.

The Nissan driver was uninjured.

According to her personal page, Boerman had taught at Pleasanton Middle School for two years. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, her adult son and a granddaughter, Boerman said on her page.

A 61-year-old Pleasanton woman died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday near the intersection of Hopyard Road and Owens Drive in Pleasanton, according to police.

The Pleasanton Police Department responded at about 6:13 p.m. to the collision involving a Toyota Rav4 that collided with a Subaru Outback. Both vehicles sustained major damage, and a Nissan Versa, also involved, had moderate damage, police said.

The woman killed, a passenger in the Subaru, suffered major injuries and was transported to Eden Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries, the agency said.

The Subaru driver sustained major injuries and was transported to John Muir Hospital where he is recovering. An infant in the Subaru, restrained in a car seat, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a medical center where she was treated and released, authorities said.

The driver and passenger in the Toyota sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Eden Medical Center, where the driver was released and the passenger is still recovering from her injuries, police said.

The Nissan driver was uninjured and released at the accident site, according to police.

Investigators report that the Toyota was traveling north on Hopyard when it collided with the Subaru which was turning onto eastbound Owens, according to authorities. The intersection was partially closed for a few hours as crews from the Pleasanton and Livermore police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team investigated the collision.

All parties involved are cooperating with the investigation, police said, adding that anyone with information that would assist in the investigation is encouraged to contact the Pleasanton PD at (925) 931-5100.
