Pleasanton Youth Expected To Get Vote On Some City Issues
The Pleasanton City Council will decide whether to amend its municipal code so youth commissioners can vote.
PLEASANTON, CA — Youth who sit on various City of Pleasanton commissions may finally get the vote. During its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, the Pleasanton City Council will decide whether to amend its municipal code to allow youth commissioners to vote on agenda items that come before them.
The four city commissions that would be affected are: Human Services, Parks and Recreation, Library, and Civic Arts. Each of these commissions has one youth member.
If approved, there will be no immediate changes to quorum requirements on future votes. Although youth will be allowed to weigh in, their ayes and nays won't be formally counted for one year. During that time, the affected commissions can review how youth members voted and how those votes could impact outcomes.
