Driver Who Held Officers At Bay Arrested Near Stoneridge Mall

Police issued a temporary shelter-in-place order to all of the nearby businesses during the negotiations with the woman.

PLEASANTON, CA — A woman who barricaded herself inside a car was taken into custody Tuesday night after holding officers at bay for several hours, police officials said. Around 3:40 p.m., police were alerted a suspected drunk driver near the mall. Officers in the area found the car and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and eventually yielded to officers by parking in a nearby lot in the area of 6130 Stoneridge Mall Road.

When the officer approached the driver’s window, the driver raised a large butcher knife to her throat. Police established a perimeter around the area and negotiated with the driver for several hours. Police issued a shelter-in-place order to all of the nearby businesses during the negotiations.

Around 8:30 p.m., police announced on social media that the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect's name was not released.
