Death of Toddler Brought to Pleasanton Hospital Under Investigation

Police in Stockton have since taken over the investigation.

PLEASANTON, CA — Stockton police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 2-year-old boy who was brought to ValleyCare Hospital in Pleasanton and pronounced dead last week, Pleasanton police officials said. Pleasanton police detectives were called to the hospital Friday and started a homicide investigation which led them to believe the crime occurred in Stockton.

Authorities at the hospital were suspicious of the boy's injuries and originally thought they happened in Oakland. Oakland police initially investigated whether the boy's injuries had happened there, responding to the 2300 block of East 17th Street at 1:45 p.m. to investigate.

However, by Saturday investigators concluded the boy had been injured in Stockton, Stockton police spokesman Officer Joe Silva said.

Stockton police responded to investigate and recovered the boy's body. According to Stockton police officials, the boy was brought to the hospital by relatives. Police officials said they are waiting for autopsy results, which are expected later this week.
