Prom Dresses Sought For Needy Kids: SRVHS Grad Launches Nonprofit

Collected donations will be available for local teens in need at a pop up event in February 2020.

PLEASANTON, CA — Stoneridge Shopping Center is hosting a Prom Dress Donation Drive, in partnership with local nonprofit Prom Dress Pop Up. Through January 31, 2020, shoppers are invited to donate gently used prom dresses, shoes and accessories at Simon Guest Services in the Nordstrom wing.

Collected donations will be available for local teens in need at a pop up event in February 2020.

Stoneridge Shopping Center’s partnership with Prom Dress Pop Up stems from the nonprofit’s founder, 18-year-old Carly Glasson, a San Ramon Valley High School grad. Carly was this year’s recipient of the Simon Youth Foundation scholarship, awarded to deserving students within 50 miles of a Simon property.

“Upon meeting Carly and presenting her with the scholarship, I was amazed to hear of this nonprofit she had started,” said Michele Osgood, director of marketing and business development at Stoneridge Shopping Center. “I immediately knew it was something Stoneridge Shopping Center should be a part of. Our shoppers have embraced the idea; we already have more than 15 dresses and counting.”

Prom Dress Pop Up is a family effort. Carly’s mother, Helga, has supported the nonprofit since the beginning. With Carly off to college, her younger sister Bella, and older sister Riley, will take on larger roles to ensure donations keep coming in.

“Carly will come home for the holidays and assist with the drive,” Helga said. “She loves to see the look on someone’s face when they find the perfect dress.”
