PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton Unified School District is the best school district in Alameda County, and the 17th best school district in California, according to school ranking site Niche. The district was also ranked 107th out of 10,751 in the United States, and 6th out of 46 in the Bay Area.
The district received an overall Niche grade of A+, and also received an A+ in the categories of “Academics,” “Teachers,” and “College Prep.” It fared less well in areas like “Resources & Facilities” (B-), and “Food” (C+.)
Niche produces its grades and rankings through a number of data sources, including the US Department of Education, student and parent surveys, Common Core data, and more.

"We are pleased that these Niche rankings reflect the legacy of excellence of our Pleasanton Unified School District students, teachers, staff and families,” Superintendent David Haglund said in a statement shared with Patch.
“Our students are fortunate to work with the best teachers in the region and consistently demonstrate outcomes for which we are incredibly proud. While this is only one measure, the fact that Niche rankings take into account student and parent/guardian reviews is heartening. Our entire Pleasanton Unified School District community should be proud of our consistently high rankings as the top district in Alameda County, and one of the top districts in the State and Nation."

Nearby, Dublin Unified received an overall grade of A+ and was ranked 11th in the Bay Area, 28th in California, and 211th in the United States. San Ramon Valley Unified School District also cracked the top 25 in the state, at number 24, and 9th in the Bay Area. Livermore Joint Valley Unified trailed behind at 107th in California, and 25th in the Bay Area.
Palo Alto Unified School District was ranked number #1 in the Bay Area and in California, and 9th in the United States. Adlai E. Stevenson High School District in Lincolnshire, Illinois was ranked the top school district in the country.
