PUSD, Union Reach Tentative Agreement
The negotiated agreement contains a salary increase, improved medical benefits, and stipends for employees pursuing advanced degrees.

PLEASANTON, CA - The Pleasanton Unified School District announced Wednesday that it has reached a tentative agreement with the California School Employees Association union, which represents classified employees within the district. The agreement still needs to be voted on by the union and the PUSD Board of Education before final approval.
The settlement includes a 5.65 percent salary increase, and a total 6.67 percent compensation package, which includes improved health benefits, the district said. The settlement also includes three professional development days, and stipends for teachers pursuing advanced degrees. The compensation increase was calculated based on a “fair share” formula that prioritizes sharing new anticipated revenue.
PUSD and CSEA worked collaboratively over five negotiation sessions to arrive at the tentative agreement. The district said the negotiating parties utilized a new “interest-based bargaining” model, which focuses on finding solutions through analyzing mutual interests.
“The fair share model is not new to some districts but is to PUSD,” CSEA President Laura Martinez said in a statement. “Our team has agreed to a pilot year using this compensation model. We hope it will benefit our classified employees and keep us competitive so we can continue to offer the best for students, staff and the community.”
"We’re pleased to have engaged in the IBB process with our classified unit members," PUSD Superintendent David Haglund said. "This collaborative approach was well received and led us to a productive outcome in a timely manner. I look forward to seeing this practice expanded where it can be helpful and lead to outcomes that benefit our students and staff."
