Safeway Opening 4 New Bay Area Stores, Renovating 20 Others
The Pleasanton-based supermarket chain is opening four new stores and renovating 20 existing ones this year, the company said.

PLEASANTON, CA â Pleasanton-based supermarket chain Safeway is opening four new Bay Area locations this year and renovating 20 existing stores, the Mercury News reported.
The stores expected to open in 2020 are in Hercules, San Jose, San Francisco and El Dorado Hills.
The Hercules store will be built at the former BART park-and-ride lot at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and John Muir Parkway, according to the Mercury News.

The other stores expected to open in 2020 are in San Jose, San Francisco and El Dorado Hills.
While many retailers are struggling in today's increasingly internet-based economy, Safeway said it plans to continue expanding.

âAs an ongoing effort, we continue to invest in new store development and store upgrades in areas we see an opportunity,â spokeswoman Wendy Gutshall told the Mercury News.
