Sawyer Pierce Receives Eagle Scout Award

For his Eagle Scout project, Pierce replaced an irrigation system for the community garden at Sunol Glen Elementary School.

Sawyer Pierce completed his Eagle Board of Review and received the award at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday, March 29th, 2025. Sawyer is the son of ­Robert and Michelle Pierce of Pleasanton, California.

He is a member of Troop 947, sponsored by Metcon of Pleasanton. Thanks go to his Scoutmaster, James Woodwell for his dedication to Scouting and help along the way.

Sawyer has been active in Scouting and served in the troop leadership as the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and previously as Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. Sawyer loves scout camp, learning new skills and getting outdoors for hikes.

For his Eagle Scout project, he replaced an irrigation system for the community garden at Sunol Glen Elementary School. Thanks go to Lowell Hoxie of the Sunol Glen school district who supervised the project. There were eight helpers, including friends, family and scout leaders. The service given for the project was 127 hours.

Sawyer is a senior at Foothill High School. His interests include water polo, swimming and video games. He played water polo for three years and was on the swimming team for four years. He plans on going to college and major in chemical engineering.

To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in their troop, provide leadership, earn 21 merit badges including the areas of citizenship, camping, communications, cooking and lifesaving or emergency preparedness as well as demonstrate that they live by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They must also plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project benefiting a religious institution, school, or community group.
