Scammers Demand Money, Say Pleasanton Residents Will Avoid Jail
The caller ID displays as Pleasanton Police Department, police say.
PLEASANTON, CA — Scammers are posing as the Pleasanton Police Department, calling residents and demanding payment to avoid jail time.
Sgt. Julie Fragomeli announced in a Wednesday morning video that the caller ID shows up as Pleasanton Police Department. Scammers claim they have a warrant for the person's arrest and they must purchase a reloadable, prepaid card to avoid jail time.
"Pleasanton Police Department or any law enforcement agency would never call over the phone requesting money," she said.
