Smoke Alarm Alerted Pleasanton Resident To Fire

BREAKING: The resident heard the smoke alarm and tried to put out the fire by herself before evacuating, according to fire officials.

PLEASANTON, CA — Livermore-Pleasanton Fire officials are crediting a smoke alarm for alerting a resident to a blaze in the back bedroom of a Pleasanton home last weekend. The fire was reported in the 3600 block of Portsmouth Ct. just before 2 p.m. Saturday.

When fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the back of the home. Fire officials said the resident, who heard the smoke alarm and tried to put out the fire by herself, had evacuated before first responders arrived.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain it to one room of the home.

“It was fortunate the house had working smoke detectors and a fire alarm system,” fire officials said in a statement. “While the smoke detectors alerted the occupant of the fire, the alarm company was simultaneously alerted and made the call to get the fire department coming.”

The resident was taken to ValleyCare Medical Center to be evaluated for smoke inhalation and no firefighters were injured during the fire.
