Stuck At Home? Decorate Your Window, Make Your Neighbors Smile!

Hang cheerful art in your front window and share a photo with Patch!

CALIFORNIA — People across the country are living in uncertain and unprecedented times, hunkering down at home in hopes of curbing the spread of the new coronavirus.

Patch reader Candyce Roberts said she worried that people would feel isolated in a time that they needed to connect. Roberts is among the many San Francisco Bay Area residents ordered to shelter in place, leaving only for critical supplies and services.

"I kept feeling like I wanted a way to tell people, 'Don’t worry, We are going to make it through this together,'" she wrote in an email.

Roberts thought of ways to put a smile on the face of her third grade friend. So she came up with an idea: What if kids home from school and adults home from work decorated their front windows with encouraging words and uplifting art?

"Maybe a sign in a window is a small thing, but it could also be a very bright and hopeful thing in someone’s day," Roberts wrote.

She shared her idea on Pleasanton Patch. Within minutes neighbor Roli Singhel posted a photo of window art — a sun peeking out from behind a cloud, which read "We Shall Overcome."
