Suspect Arrested After Numerous Car Break-Ins Near Downtown Pleasanton

BREAKING: A key fob from a stolen car also was found near Peters Avenue where the 27-year-old was apprehended, police said.

PLEASANTON, CA – A man was arrested early today after a resident in a neighborhood near downtown Pleasanton reported seeing an unknown male inside his neighbor’s car, according to police.

Officers responding to the 500 block of St. John Street arrested Steven Fox, 27, shortly after 2:30 a.m. as he allegedly walked from the backyard of a residence on Peters Avenue, the Pleasanton Police Department said today.

Fox matched the description provided by the witness and was positively identified in an in-field line up, the department said.

After further investigation, police reported numerous vehicles in the area were broken into during the early morning hours, adding that Fox purportedly was in possession of stolen property from those cars. A key fob belonging to a vehicle logged as stolen from Fremont also was located in the area where Fox was initially spotted by officers.

Fox was arrested on numerous theft-related charges including suspicion of theft from a vehicle, possession of stolen property and stolen vehicle.

His city of residence was not immediately available from the agency.

Police remind citizens to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in plain sight, also noting that if someone witnesses suspicious activity to report it to the police.
