Transient Found Dead On I-580 Identified By Coroner

BREAKING: The elderly man's body was found near the on-ramp from Hacienda Drive to eastbound Highway 580 in early August.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Alameda County Coroner’s Office has identified an elderly transient found dead on near the on-ramp from Hacienda Drive to eastbound Highway 580 on August 3. California Highway Patrol officers said Raymond Gerrish, 75, was found at about 7:20 a.m. near the busy on-ramp.

CHP officials said no vehicle was seen in the area and Gerrish's body did not show signs of trauma. Investigators believe Gerrish, a local transient, may have died of natural causes.

The Alameda County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy but has not yet determined Gerrish's cause of death. Officials said will likely know more when the toxicology tests have been completed.
