Triple Digits Expected Tuesday In Pleasanton, Heat Watch Issued

PLEASANTON, CA — Crank up the air conditioning, Pleasanton: Tuesday’s going to be a scorcher.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch in Pleasanton, the Tri-Valley and most of inland California that will last Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Danville can expect a sweltering high of 101 degrees Tuesday, and meteorologists warn that temperatures could reach as high as 105 degrees in the area, which would approach or break records in several areas. Highs of 93 are predicted Wednesday and Thursday.

The extreme heat presents increased risk of heat-related illnesses like exhaustion, stroke and dehydration. The National Weather Service advises:

• Limiting outdoor strenuous activities during the hottest times of the day.
• Never leaving kids or pets unattended in vehicles.
• Staying in air-conditioned areas.
• Taking extra care of pets, crops and livestock.
• Watching for hot pavement when walking dogs.

Contra Costa County provides six main cooling centers:

• Contra Costa Social Services buildings in Brentwood (151 Sand Creek Road), Richmond (1305 MacDonald Ave.) and Pleasant Hill (400 Ellinwood Way.) These are all open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Alcosta Senior and Community Center: 9300 Alcosta Boulevard, San Ramon (Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.)
• Brentwood Community Center: 35 Oak Street, Brentwood, (Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.)
• San Ramon City Hall: 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road (Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.)
