Triple Digits Predicted In Pleasanton For Scorching Labor Day Weekend

PLEASANTON, CA — Labor Day may mean the end of summer, but it won’t mean the end of summer temperatures this year by a long shot.

A ferocious heat wave is expected to bring triple-digit temperatures as high as 106 to Pleasanton and much of the inland Bay Area over the weekend. Even San Francisco can expect temperatures in the upper 70s throughout the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the entire Bay Area and Central Coast from Saturday morning until Tuesday evening, though temperatures will crank up steadily starting Thursday.

In Pleasanton, AccuWeather predicts a high of 101 Thursday, 95 Friday, 105 Saturday, 106 Sunday, 100 Monday, and 94 Tuesday. Temperatures of 93 are predicted Wednesday, followed by temperatures in the mid to upper 80s for the rest of the week.

The extreme heat presents increased risk of heat-related illnesses like exhaustion, stroke and dehydration. The National Weather Service advises:

• Limiting outdoor strenuous activities during the hottest times of the day.
• Never leaving kids or pets unattended in vehicles.
• Staying in air-conditioned areas.
• Taking extra care of pets, crops and livestock.
• Watching for hot pavement when walking dogs.

Contra Costa County provides six main cooling centers:

• San Ramon City Hall: 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road (Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.)
• Contra Costa Social Services buildings in Brentwood (151 Sand Creek Road), Richmond (1305 MacDonald Ave.) and Pleasant Hill (400 Ellinwood Way.) These are all open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Alcosta Senior and Community Center: 9300 Alcosta Boulevard, San Ramon (Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.)
• Brentwood Community Center: 35 Oak Street, Brentwood, (Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.)
