Walmart Recall In Pleasanton: 6,400 Pounds Of Frozen Meat

The recall was announced after a third-party cold storage facility inadvertently shipped the meat products into stores.

PLEASANTON, CA — Attention Walmart shoppers: More than 6,400 pounds of meat have been recalled for possible salmonella contamination.

Stores in the Tri-Valley are part of a nationwide recall of some 6,444 pounds of ready-to-eat pork sausage patties and turkey sausage patties from George's Prepared Foods, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Monday.

The government safety organization is urging customers who bought the now-recalled items not to eat them.

George's Prepared Foods, which produces fully cooked meat under Walmart's Great Value brand, found a small amount of items tested positive for salmonella in its facility.
The company's plan to dispose of the contaminated items was foiled after a third-party cold storage facility inadvertently shipped the ready-to-eat products nationwide.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reaction from the consumption of these products, officials said.

Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product. Most people, though, can recover after four to seven days without treatment.
